To “accomplish” means to “achieve” or to “fulfill” a desired goal or objective. In its simplest form, it could also mean to “finish well or as originally intended”. The word “purpose” can be defined as the “reason or motive” behind or propelling a particular set of actions.
So putting these key words together, “to achieve the purpose” means “to fulfill or achieve the original intention of a matter”. Ecclesiastes 3:1 states that there is a time for every purpose under heaven. This scripture tells us that “Time” plays an important role in accomplishing purpose. There is always a certain time for the fulfillment of purpose.
Another salient point that can be inferred from this scripture is that there are different purposes under heaven. We can broadly classify these as follows;
- a) The purpose of God which is closely associated with the will of God (Isaiah 55:11),
- b) The purpose of man (Prov.19:21) and
- c) The purpose of the Devil (John 10:10).
One key question to answer early is “whose purpose am I pursuing and accomplishing”. Whose will are you establishing; as this will determine who is backing you and working through you.
Proverbs 19:21 states that although there are many plans in a man’s heart, only the counsel of God shall stand. This provides us with a fundamental truth; God will always win in the end because He is all powerful and wiser than all. In the end, God’s counsel will always stand. Let’s encourage ourselves with the death of our Lord Jesus on the cross; the subsequent resurrection of Jesus proves that the wisdom of God is unbeatable. 1 Corinthians 2: 8 states that “had the princes and rulers of darkness of this world known; they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. They thought they were winning but did not know that they were working out the exact plan of the Almighty.
If we are to be wise; we should strive to run in a manner that will guarantee victory. Running the race of God on the tracks directed by the Holy Spirit, using His strength and submitting to His wisdom at all times. The way to do this is twofold;
1) Pursue only God’s purpose and will in every issue (Luke 22:42) and
2) Engage God’s Word to help for direction and strength (Isaiah 55:11).
When we use these keys above victory is assured. 2 Corinthians 2:14 says God is the only One that can guarantee “finishing well” all the time. This is because He leads us to pre-designed victory. We should never use our own strength, wisdom or tactics as these are bound to bring disappointment (Zechariah 4:6).
Isaiah 55:11 gives us a very powerful tool to help us achieve purpose; the Word of God. God says His word will never return to Him void but will accomplish what He pleases; which is His purpose. Let us remember the instruction stated in Proverbs 3:6 which states that we should acknowledge God in all our ways and He will direct our paths.
Remember, it must be His will and way as God is never compelled to back up man’s wishes, but he is ever ready to make available His wondrous provisions to guarantee success. This is the secret to accomplishing God’s purpose in life.
In summary, engaging the Holy Spirit to receive guidance in accordance to promises made in God’s Word and applying God’s wisdom and steadfast faith to act according to His leading at the right time will always result in God’s pre-designed victory that accomplishes His purpose and brings glory to Him. It’s all about Him.
